In Abarán, visitors can follow a route that will lead them to four of the many waterwheels, or “ñoras” as they are known in the area, which transport water from the river to irrigate the most distant plains. From this area the landscape changes and we enter a more open area famous for its fruit orchards, particularly peach, and its contrasting landscapes, making it particularly attractive for engaging in sports such as hiking, BTT or rock climbing. Other open-air sports that can be pursued here include rafting on the River Segura or horse-riding along routes offered by various horse riding centres.
Blanca:- A medium sized town with a fine hotel, a good selection of bars and restaurants, shops, supermarkets, medical center, schools and a good bus service to Murcia capital, also historic monuments, remains of a castle set on craggy hilltop. The “Casco antiguo” (antique quarter) with steep, narrow, winding lanes with several antique buildings being restored by the local authorities for artists studios, training schools, rural hostels, etc. A very pleasant, pine lined, riverside promenade, with “Chiringuito” (Beach Bar) and swimming areas, a splendid extra large public park with exotic trees and shady palm lined riverside seating areas. Of special interest, the small lake used for water sports, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and rafting down from Cieza, all surrounded by public parks. The main access to Blanca is the road down from the A30 motorway Murcia – Madrid. And from the town there are various roads out leading to the “Campo de Ricote” a 20 klm road winding through the countryside dotted with old farmhouses, and the surrounding towns of Ricote with the famous El Sordo restaurant, Ulea another small quaint town, Abaran, and the spa town of Archena. In all a very pleasant town to relax with easy access to a wide variety of larger towns or the coast, Mar Menor or Mazarron, 50 minutes. See Valle de Ricote in our webs for properties in this area.
